RACE DAY!!
We are headed to Price this weekend for a huge 2 day race. I am way excited! For those who don't know, or don't understand....Jared races mini-sprint cars as his hobby. He has been doing it for about 5 years. He started out racing late model cars before that. He would race up at Rocky Mountain Raceway and also go to Nevada, Wyoming, and I think Colorado. That type of car is a little spendy to race, unless you have great sponsors. He loved it, but couldn't keep up with the financial end of it. He sold his late model and bought a minisprint and has been going ever since. Not to brag....ok I am going to brag a bit, Jared has won 1 championship, took 2nd one year(his dad took first), and I think took 2nd another year. He wants to go for another championship next year! Racing has been in his blood since he was a little boy. His dad has raced for years, his cool mom even had a mini-sprint car and went out racing with the boys. Love ya-Marsha! His brothers all have a passion for racing also. They actually have been known to race about anything with wheels, 4-wheelers, riding lawn-mowers, whatever.
Ok, a little briefing about mini-sprints. I know that it looks kinda like a little go-cart--but beware-calling it that is calling on a fight. It may look little and funny with the wing on it, but that little sucker flies!! It has a bullet bike engine in it. His is called a GSXR 1100 and runs off methanol fuel. They race on a dirt track, they can be raced on asphalt, but most of them like dirt better and the set-up is different. The wing gives them downforce through the corners and is set up a certain way to only turn left, which is the way the track goes. The car won't turn right very good. They run about 90-95 mph on the straights and about 80 mph through the corners on a track that is 3/8 of a mile. So it is so NOT a go-cart!!
He hasn't raced a lot this year, kinda took a year off to play doing other things, cause it is very time consuming. He has raced one other race this season, at the first, and he kicked some a$$!
This weekend is a big race with a pretty good payout. At the regular races of the year, they make a little bit of money and it is usually about 10-12 cars in their class, all from Utah. This weekend there should be between 20-25 cars there to race. Drivers are coming from Denver, New York, and New Mexico. I am way excited to go watch Jared race!! There is nothing better than the smell of methanol gas! (That sounded red-neck!!) So everyone wish us luck that he does good and that nobody gets hurt! I will post pictures when we get home!
